Library to present talk on long-term care

Julia Boyer Reinstein Library, 1030 Losson Road, Cheektowaga, will offer an educational discussion called “Home is where the heart is” from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 29. The presentation of long-term care options will feature Allen Dembski and Don Eich, financial advisors, Waddell & Reed.

Fundraisers to benefit lymphoma patient

Friends and classmates of Lydia Matuch, a 15-year-old who has been diagnosed with lymphoma, will hold a car wash from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday May 1, at the Autozone on the corner of French and Borden in Cheektowaga. The cost will be $5 per car. A theme basket raffle to benefit Matuch will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday May 7, at Depew High School, 5201 Transit Road. Admission will be $5 per person and include a door prize ticket and a sheet of basket raffle tickets.

Reinstein library offers lecture on Uganda

The Julia Reinstein Library, 1030 Losson Road, Cheektowaga will host Sharon Green, Global African Village co-founder and her lecture: “Helping Uganda’s Bagishu People” from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, May 3.

Library schedules computer basics class

The Julia Boyer Reinstein Library, 1030 Losson Road, Cheektowaga, will hold a series on computer basics from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesdays, beginning May 4. The first program is titled Computer Basics Beginner. Microsoft Word-Beginner will be on May 11. On May 18, Internet-Beginners will be at 10 a.m., while Internet Intermediate will be at 1 p.m. The series will culminate on May 25 with Email-Beginner at 10 a.m. and Email-Intermediate at 1 p.m. To sign up for the classes, call 668-4991 or stop by the library.

Police offer information on Watch Your Car

The Cheektowaga Police Department Crime Resistance Unit will host an educational event on the Watch Your Car program from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 5 at the Cleveland Hill Fire Department, 440 Cleveland Drive.

The Watch Your Car program consists to two distinct parts, a window sticker program and a Vehicle Identification Number etching program. The window sticker program allows the police to stop a vehicle if it is on the road between 1 and 5 a.m. The VIN etching program consists of the etching of the vehicle’s VIN into the window. Both programs are designed to deter vehicle thefts. The service is free. For more information, call 897-7293.

Mother’s Day craft event set at Niagara Hobby

Niagara Hobby and Craft Mart, 3366 Union Road, Cheektowaga, will hold a Mother’s Day-themed children’s craft workshop from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 8. The free event is focused toward children ages 12 and under and will feature coloring, drawing, painting, creating, raffles and more. German celebration scheduled

Maifest, a German celebration, will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday May 8 at Knights of Columbus Father Justin Council #5670, 2735 Union Road, Cheektowaga. The event will feature Bavarian folk dances and costumes and music by The Aüslanders. Dinner and sandwiches will be available along with a cash bar, but no carry in food or drinks will be permitted. Lupus Alliance sets information meeting

The Lupus Alliance of Upstate New York will hold a new patient orientation meeting from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 12 at its office, 3871 Harlem Road, Cheektowaga. All newly diagnosed lupus patients, their families and friends are invited. There will be current literature available as well as a video and time for questions. Safe boating course scheduled

US Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 33 - Buffalo will present its next safe boating class from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 15 at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church Hall, 1395 George Urban Blvd., Cheektowaga. Safe driving course scheduled

A New York State certified six-hour point- and insurance-reduction course will be offered from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 15 at Days Inn, 4345 Genesee St., Cheektowaga. The course allows each participant to receive 10 percent off collision and liability auto insurance for three consecutive years. The course will also remove up to four points from a New York State driver’s license. Seating is limited. To register, call 636-4151.

Children’s craft event focuses on horses

The event is geared toward children ages 15 and under and will feature a visit from the official Breyer mascot, Pal-O-Mine. Niagara Hobby plans model rocket event

Niagara Hobby and Craft Mart, 3366 Union Road, Cheektowaga, will host a model rocket children’s workshop from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 29 and Saturday, July 3. The activities are focused toward children ages 7-13. Each child will select and build a rocket with parental supervision.
