Season-high pinfall not enough as JFK girls fall to Tonawanda

John F. Kennedy’s girls bowling team posted a season-high 3,513 pinfall total January 18, but it still wasn’t enough as the Lady Bears were upended by league foe Tonawanda, 5-2.

Nicole Pearce had a monster day for the Lady Bears with her 226-182-224-632 set, while Gabrielle Kuzara had two really solid games in her 505 set. Lisa Hoffman led the “B” team with her 192 high game. Jennifer Stewart chipped in with a 160 high game.

“When it was 2-2 after the first two games, I really thought we would pull it out,” coach Scott Syroczynski said. “As a team we bowled well in the third game, but we just came up short. It’s disappointing that we lost this match because the girls really went all out to get a win, but I am proud of their efforts.”

JFK entered last Wednesday’s match having not competed since it earned a 6-1 win over Eden on January 11. Pearce rolled a 203-555 set to pace the “A” team, while Elizabeth Czajka added a 485 set. Stewart led the “B” team with her 164-420 set, while Aujah Salter had a 143 high game to help the “B” team earn two out of the three possible points.

“The match was much closer than the score would indicate, as we had to sweat out each game in the last couple of frames to only edge them by 78 total pins in the end,” Syroczynski said.

JFK returned to action Wednesday against crosstown rival Cleveland Hill, but information about that match was not available at press time. The Bears will then end their regular season Wednesday by hosting Holland.
