Cheektowaga’s wrestling team crowned one individual champion and had three grapplers place in the top six to highlight the Warriors’ efforts at last weekend’s annual ECIC Championship Tournament, held at Clarence High School.

Renaldo Rodriguez-Spencer earned an 8-5 decision victory over Alden’s Robert Broad in their 126-pound championship bout to claim that weight division’s title. Rodriguez-Spencer finished the tournament 4-0 overall, with three wins coming via major decision.

Matt Fleck earned a third-place finish in the 195-pound weight class after his opponent from Lake Shore, Rory Jimerson, had to withdraw from their third-fourth place match due to injury. Fleck finished the tournament 5-1 overall. Miguel Rodriguez Spencer, meanwhile, finished sixth in the 145-pound weight class (2-3) after being forced to forfeit in his fifth-sixth place bout with Tonawanda’s Jake Choate due to an injury.

Cheektowaga closes out the league portion of its schedule by hosting West Seneca East tonight, and then finishes off its final week of the regular season by participating in the annual Ken-Ton Tournament — held at Kenmore West — Saturday.
