Chamber hosting benefit at high school
The Cheektowaga Chamber of Commerce and the Cheektowaga Central School District will host a “Buffalo ComedySportz Night” at 7 p.m. Friday, March 9, at Cheektowaga Central High School, 3600 Union Road.
Buffalo ComedySportz began in 1993 and is a fast-paced, family-friendly improvisational comedy, played as a sport. Two teams take turns making up scenes, playing games and singing songs, and members of the audience vote on which team they like the best.
It’s all presided over by a referee who keeps things moving, calls the ComedySportz fouls and takes suggestions shouted out by the audience before each game.
“We are excited about this event,” said Debra Liegl, president and CEO of the Cheektowaga Chamber of Commerce. “The show is great for the entire family — an opportunity for all ages to get together and enjoy an evening of laughs and family fun.”
Following the performance, there will be refreshments provided by Chick-N-Pizza Works and Anderson’s Ice Cream and a theme basket raffle.
“This type of event is unique because it has something for everyone,” Liegl said. “We invite everyone to attend the event with their family, friends and co-workers. The collaboration between the school, the community and local businesses also makes this event unique.”
A portion of the proceeds from this event will benefit the Cheektowaga Central Middle School Washington, D.C., trip.
“The opportunity to give back to the school and support the eighth-grade students’ trip to Washington, D.C., means a lot to us and to the students,” said Liegl, who noted that many of the students cannot afford the trip on their own and by hosting the event, the Chamber and the district can help some students who might not otherwise have been able to make the trip.
Tickets for the show are $15 for adults and $10 for students. Tickets for a family of four — two adults and two students — can be purchased for $40. Tickets are available at the Cheektowaga Chamber of Commerce Office in the AppleTree Business Park, 2875 Union Road, Suite 50, and at Cheektowaga Central High School.
