Central girls bowlers clinch division title
Cheektowaga’s girls bowling team squeaked past Depew in its regular-season finale Feb. 7, 4-3, to finish in first place in the ECIC North Small Schools standings.
“I have had so much fun coaching the girls, and I hope I have impacted them as much as they have impacted me this season,” coach Courtney Fritsch said. “Now it’s time to have some fun at ECIC Roll-offs and sectionals. I, for one, cannot wait to see what happens there.”
After both the “A” and “B” teams dropped their opening games, the girls all huddled together and decided right then and there that they did not want to lose their division lead, Fritsch said.
In the end, Krista Hoctor and Karissa Le’Roy contributed to the win by each bowling a 214, while Emily Crone shot a 212 for the “A” team. The “B” team also posted strong results in its final game of the night, with Sarah Hencinski bowling a high game of 186 and Alyssa Chorozak bowling a game of 144.
At Monday’s Roll-offs, Crone took home three awards: high series (656), second-highest average in the division and high game during the season (275). Onisk fired a high game of 210 at Roll-offs.
The Lady Warriors returned to Airport Wednesday to take part in sectionals, but information about that match was not available at press time.
