Spare change to support Ronald McDonald House

Restaurants to offer drop boxes on Oct. 15

Ronald McDonald House Charities is celebrating its annual Day of Change on Sunday, Oct. 15, at local McDonald’s restaurants, including those in Cheektowaga.

The Day of Change is the charity’s annual call to action to support families with children facing medical crises. RMHC helps families stay together and close to the medical care their child needs at hospitals here and around the world.

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Western New York is asking individuals, businesses and community groups to visit McDonald’s Restaurants in Western New York and North West Pennsylvania on Oct. 15 and drop their spare change into an RMHC donation box.

McDonald’s locations in Cheektowaga include: 1735 Walden Ave., 2567 Union Road and 4217 Genesee St.

The organization notes that any amount of spare change can help create big change for families and children in the community.

The RMHC donation boxes found in local McDonald's Restaurants are among the biggest ongoing fundraisers for Ronald McDonald House Charities of WNY.

Last year, more than $120,000 was collected in the counter and drive-thru donation boxes, according to the organization, which noted that a full donation box could let a family stay together at the Buffalo Ronald McDonald House for up to 11 nights while their child receives care at nearby hospitals.

“A simple act of kindness at the front counter is a powerful gift for our guest families,” said Sally Vincent, executive director of Ronald McDonald House Charities of WNY. “When families have to travel outside of their local community for specialized medical care for their child, the Ronald McDonald House provides them with a home away from home so they are able to stay close to their child.”
