Depew Salon, town-based food pantry work together on food drive

Salon Ultima is teaming up with the Resurrection Life Food Pantry to help local veterans have food for their Christmas dinner.

The Food Pantry at Resurrection Life is operated by members of the church, and it distributes food to hundreds of families.

The pantry is a registered distribution center for the Food Bank of Western New York that serves those in ZIP codes 14225 and 14227. On average, its distributes five to six tons of food per month.

“It’s important to me to help those in our community and especially the veterans. These men and women have served our country, and we are all truly grateful for them,” said Jill Call, owner of Salon Ultima.

“Our goal is to collect enough food to help 100 veteran families from the Res Life Food Pantry for their Christmas dinner.”

In an effort to motivate participation, the salon has provided a specific list of items that the pantry needs for the dinners and is raffling off a basket to collect money for the hams that the veterans will receive, with proceeds going to the food pantry.

In addition, those who drop off items from the list, can pick an ornament from the “Giving Tree” at the salon, which gives back to the giver with a coupon for a discounted service or gift valued at $10 or more.

The specific list of items requested are one canned pineapple, one box of mashed potatoes, two cans of corn, two cans of green beans and one boxed dessert, such as a brownie or cake mix.

Donations must be received at the salon by Saturday, Dec. 16.

Salon Ultima is located at 1380 French Road/Plaza in Depew, between Transit and Borden roads. The hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays; and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. The list of items needed also can be found at www.salonultima.com.
