St. John’s celebrates National Polka Month

St. John the Baptist, 2028 Sandridge Road in Alden, will hold a Polish Night at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, to celebrate National Polka Month. Tickets are $10 in advance by Friday, Jan. 12, or $15 at the door; tickets are limited. Winterfest slated for Jan. 28

The Erie County Department of Parks, Recreation and Forestry and the Orchard Park Recreation Department will present Winterfest from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, at Chestnut Ridge Park. The event will be held with or without snow and features family activities including sledding, snowshoe hikes; snow sculpting with prizes awarded for cutest, funniest and most original; marshmallow roasting, arts and crafts, hay rides ($5 for adults, $3 for children) and wood branding.

Legion to hold pro wrestling event

Francis J. Donovan American Legion Post 1626 will host Buffalo Championship Wrestling: Stampede at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at the legion hall, 3210 Genesee St. The first match is scheduled for 7 p.m. Discounted tickets are available at the post before the event. Front Row VIP tickets are $14, general admission adult tickets are $12 and tickets for children 12 years old and younger are $8. All ticket prices will increase by $2 the day of the event. ABC Bel Canto Choirs searching for singers

ABC Bel Canto Choirs will hold open houses for singers in grades three through 12 on Thursdays, Jan. 11, 18 and 25, at Christ United Methodist Church, 350 Saratoga Road, Amherst. Church to host Social Security session

At 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, New Creation Fellowship, 3325 Genesee St., will host a Social Security workshop featuring attorney Josephine Greco, who has advised clients on Social Security issues for more than 35 years. Areas to be covered include: Social Security disability benefits, Supplemental Security Income benefits, Social Security retirement benefits and Social Security survivors benefits. Maryvale to hold ‘Jazz and Java’ event

The Maryvale Music Boosters will host “Jazz and Java Night” from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, in the Robert A. Binner Educational Center cafe, 1050 Maryvale Drive. The event will feature music from the Villa Maria College jazz ensemble, a selfie station, Maryvale music mugs and other items for sale, and desserts and hot drinks.

Scam seminar set for Senior Center

The Cheektowaga Senior Citizen’s Foundation is sponsoring a free seminar, “Smart Seniors,” featuring Karen Davis, senior fraud representative from the New York State Attorney General’s Office, at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, at the Senior Center, 3349 Broadway. The presentation will educate seniors about the latest senior scams, identity theft and how to be a safer consumer. Call 686-3930 to sign up. Refreshments will be served.
