Lockport City schools put Town Councilman Rogowski on leave

Cheektowaga Councilman James Rogowski has been placed on paid administrative leave by the Lockport City School District, where he works as a technology teacher, The Bee confirmed on Monday.

“At the Board of Education meeting of Feb. 28, 2018 the Board of Education placed an employee on paid administrative leave, effective March 1, 2018. The employee that is the subject of this resolution is James Rogowski,” Lisa M. Schrader, Lockport’s assistant superintendent for personnel, said in a statement.

She added that she was “unable to comment on any other aspects of this personnel matter at this time.”

Rogowski, first elected to the board in 2005, was arrested Feb. 23 for allegedly violating an order of protection and is facing first-degree criminal contempt and second-degree menacing charges brought by the West Seneca Police Department.

The charges stemmed from an alleged domestic incident on Orchard Park Road in West Seneca on Feb. 23. Rogowski was taken into custody later that night by Cheektowaga police at the request of the West Seneca department.

Last week, before he was placed on administrative leave by Lockport, Rogowski told members of the media that he would not resign from his Town Board position.

He is due back in court next week.
