Dale pleads guilty to fraud

Former Erie County Legislator David Dale is facing up to four years in prison after pleading guilty to practicing law after being disbarred.

Dale, 49, pleaded guilty to first-degree felony scheme to defraud and one count of practice of law by an attorney who has been disbarred.

According to the Erie County District Attorney’s Office, Dale admitted that following his disbarment in 2005, he continued practicing law, providing unlawful legal services to clients and to unlawfully receiving payment for those services.

Dale, the former Sloan village attorney, also admitted that he stole monies from certain individuals by pretending that he was permitted to provide them with legal services.

He will be sentenced Aug. 28. The maximum sentence he could receive is four years in jail.
