He recently celebrated the golden anniversary of his ordination into the priesthood. The Rev. Nicholas Swiatek recently celebrated his golden jubilee with a Mass of Thanksgiving at Resurrection Church on Como Park Boulevard in Cheektowaga. The Mass included numerous priests, the Knights of Columbus Honor Guard and a tribute by the St. Mary’s High School class of 1959.

A Depew native, Rev. Swiatek, of the Order of Friars Minor Conventual, was ordained on Dec. 21, 1968, at St. Hyacinth’s Seminary in Granby, Massachusetts. He currently serves as pastor of Seto Church-Aichi and prefecture of Nagoya Diocese, Japan.

He served as pastor of the former Precious Blood Church in Buffalo and parishes in Pennsylvania before resuming his missionary duties in Japan.

He was the first ordained priest of Resurrection Church and returned to visit Resurrection Church 50 years later to commemorate his ordination.

During the course of his career, Swiatek was given the Pro Vita award by Bishop Edward

Kmiec.

A private reception was held by Swiatek’s cousins, Maria Garrity and Jeanette Hejna, to celebrate the occasion.
