Sloan summer concerts under way

The Sloan Arts Council and Village of Sloan’s annual summer concert series will continue with a show by Five Friend Wayne on Thursday, Aug. 9, and a performance by Crash Cadillac on Thursday, Aug. 23. All performances are free and run from 7 to 9 p.m. in Griffith Park. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.

Art Guild seeks new members

The Cheektowaga Art Guild is looking for residents who enjoy the arts to join the organization. Meetings take place at 7 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month at the Kenneth J. Meyers Town of Cheektowaga Recreation Center, 2600 Harlem Road. Meetings convene upstairs. Visit www.cheektowagaart guild.com for more information.

Radio Reading group to host coin drive

The Niagara Frontier Radio Reading Service has begun its summer coin drive, “Radio Reading Makes Cents,” collecting spare change for the organization that broadcasts readings of newspapers, magazines and books to area residents who are blind. Money raised by the drive will buy “reading radios,” which are provided to participants. Coins can be dropped off through Sunday, Sept. 16, at 1199 Harlem Road, between William and Clinton streets. Cruise night to feature live music

A Cruise night will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, at Elderwood at Cheektowaga, 225 Bennett Road. The event will feature food, beverages and live music performed by West of the Mark. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair. A People’s Choice award will be given, which those in attendance can vote on. The first 25 cruisers to arrive will also receive a dash plaque. South Line plans Summer Bash

South Line Volunteer Fire Company will hold its annual Summer Bash Friday, Aug. 17, and Saturday, Aug. 18, at 1049 French Road. The event starts at 6 p.m. Friday with a performance by West of the Mark. Registration for the Bud Stradtman Car Show will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, with the show starting around noon. A chicken barbecue gets underway at 1 p.m. and is followed by a 7 p.m. performance by Black Widow. People must be 21 or older to enter the beer tent. Chicken barbecue dinners are $10, and presale tickets are available by calling Elaine at 656-0972. Raffles and additional food and drinks will be available both days of the event.
