Friends of Reinstein Woods Events

The following events are scheduled at the Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve, 93 Honorine Drive, Depew, unless otherwise noted. For more information or to register for a specific event, call 683-5959.

Fall Festival

The annual festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, and will feature a sustainable earth theme. There will be interactive exhibits from more than 30 local nature, environmental and historical organizations, as well as a scavenger hunt, simulated fly fishing for children, live animals, games, face painting, costumed characters, T-shirt bag making and food for sale. No registration is required, and a donation is requested for admission.

Senior Stroll

Experience nature at your own pace and enjoy a leisurely, guided walk through the woods at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19. The program is for adults only, and registration is required.

Birding 101: Class No. 9

Learn how to identify different raptors, also known as birds of prey, in Reinstein Woods at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22. This program is for adults and children ages 8 and older, and registration is required.

Full Moon Walk

Search for nocturnal animals and seasonal constellations under the first full moon of fall at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25. Registration is required.

Poisonous Plants in your own Backyard

Some of the plants that grow in our yards can be toxic if the wrong part is eaten or they are prepared the wrong way. Learn about these common plants and their chemical defenses, as well as poisonous plants and animals, in Reinstein Woods at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29. The program is for adults and children ages 12 and older, and registration is required.

Passport to Play

Stop in the Education Center to pick up a passport guide to nature play activities set up along the trails in the preserve from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29. No registration is required.

Community Service Day

Those who need community service hours for high school or college or just wish to lend a hand can assist on projects from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 6. Registration is required.

Woods Walk: Nature Guide’s Choice

Join a guided nature walk through the woods at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6. Registration is not required.

Wild Wednesday

Together, children and their parents or caregivers can enjoy a different, hour long outdoor activity from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10. This event is for children in kindergarten through fifth grade, and registration is not required.

Trailside Art

Create ephemeral art inspired by artist Andy Goldsworthy along the trails and ponds of Reinstein Woods at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13. Registration is required.

Birding 101: Class No. 10

Learn which birds will be in the area for the winter season at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13. This event is for adults and children ages 8 and older, and registration is required.
