Sloan highway chief announces retirement

Gene Beszczynski, chief of Sloan’s highway department, is retiring, he announced at Tuesday’s Sloan Village Board meeting.

Beszczynski was hired by the village as a laborer in 2006 and took over as working crew chief a few years later, according to Village Clerk Debra Smith. The position is an appointed one, rather than an elected seat, as it is in the Town of Cheektowaga, for example.

The position will be posted for two weeks, according to Smith. If the position is filled by an internal hire, a laborer opening will be posted after. The village’s highway department consists of four full-time employees and one part-time employee.

The job opening can be found on Sloan’s website at www.villageofsloan.org. For additional information, call the village office at 897-1560 or stop by Village Hall, 425 Reiman St.

The Sloan Village Board meets at 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at Village Hall.
