Cheektowaga-Sloan appoints boys varsity bowling coach, approves several field trips


The Cheektowaga-Sloan School Board appointed Robert Snyder as the boys varsity bowling coach at Monday’s meeting.

John F. Kennedy High School’s bowling season officially gets underway at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, when the team faces Eden Senior High School at the Broadway Sports Center, 3500 Broadway, Cheektowaga.

In another matter, the School Board approved five field trips that will take place in November and December. The field trips are as follows:

• Jessica Stiglmeier will take fifth- and sixth-grade students to the Empowerment Days, sponsored by the Town of Cheektowaga Youth and Recreation Department at the Losson Community Center from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14. The cost to the district is two buses.

• Tim Murray and Ann Schieder will take members of the JFK Middle School Band and Choir to Woodrow Wilson Elementary from 8:30 to 10:45 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30. The cost is four buses.

• Rick Keller will take members of the JFK Wind Ensemble to Peregrine’s Landing to perform a holiday concert from 9 to 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19. The cost is one bus.

• Amy Fitzner will take the second- through fifth-grade Elementary Choirs to the annual Town of Cheektowaga Tree Lighting Event beginning at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26. They will also go to the annual Sloan Village Christmas Party to perform holiday songs for the community at the Sloan Fire Hall at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16. There is no cost to the district.

• Patricia Tooke will take JFK High School students to the Donate Life Kickoff Summit event at D’Youville College from 9:10 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26. The cost is one bus.

The School Board also approved the resignation of custodian Todd DeVorchik and adopted the school budget calendar for the 2019-20 fiscal year.

The next Cheektowaga Sloan School Board meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, at Woodrow Wilson Elementary School, 166 Halstead Ave., Sloan. To learn more about district-related matters, visit cheektowagasloan.org.
